By The Bay Pool And Spa Inspections
We inspect pool and spa safety barriers to ensure they are maintained to the highest applicable safety and quality standards.
Where possible, we can also help make your pool or spa fence compliant with safety standards by making the necessary repairs on the day we conduct the inspection (for an additional fee).
*A Certificate of Compliance will only be issued if your pool/spa is deemed compliant with the relevant standard.
Why your pool needs certifying
• On 1 December 2019, new laws to improve swimming pool and spa safety came into effect in Victoria. It is now mandatory for owners of land where a swimming pool or spa is located to register their pool or spa with the relevant council (date extended to 1 November 2020 due to COVID).• Owners are also required to have their safety barriers inspected and to lodge a certificate of barrier compliance with their council. If a safety barrier is not compliant, it is the owner’s responsibility tomake the barrier compliant.
The process
Step 1Register your pool with your local council and find out your applicable barrier standard.
Step 2We come to inspect your pool barrier to the relevant safety standards.
Step 3We will provide you with a Certificate of Compliance to lodge with Council, or a report that explains how to fix your pool barrier to meet the required standards.
Step 4If required, you'll correct any issues with your safety barrier and we'll re-inspect it before issuing your Certificate to lodge with Council.
Step 5We will notify you in 4 years when it’s time for your next inspection.
If you already have a pool or spa
As a pool or spa owner, you have an obligation to maintain the operation of your swimming pool or spa barrier to prevent access to the pool or spa.
The following checklists will help you assess the safety of your barrier. The checklists are based on the relevant barrier standard associated with the date that the pool or spa was installed.
